Welcoming Gloria Araka to the Team
Gloria Araka is a confident and determined articling student with SN Law Office. She credits her decision to become a lawyer and her interest in the legal field to her father who was a Chief Judge in Nigeria, Africa where Gloria was born and raised. Her goal is to follow in her father’s footsteps and build a solid legal career in Canada; an accomplishment and opportunity she sees to pave the way for other internationally trained Lawyers who have immigrated to this country.
Gloria holds a Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) from Abia State University, Nigeria as well as, a Masters of Law Degree (LLM) with Commendation, from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, United Kingdom. In 2008 she was called to the Nigerian Bar and received her Barrister at Law from the Nigerian Law School. Since then she has had the opportunity to work in reputable law firms and learn from mentors, academics and established lawyers in various areas including:
Gloria cites her time at the Apex Legal Research Institute and her role as Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in Nigeria as a pivotal opportunity in her career. She was able to advance her research abilities and enhance her legal training specific to areas of law pertaining to Government establishments and Energy Law, Oil & Gas Law and Human Rights Law. These skills and abilities she has eagerly brought to her work with clients since immigrating to Canada in 2015. Gloria obtained her Certificate of Equivalency from the National Committee of Accreditation (NCA) and began practicing in an area she is passionate about, Criminal Law in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Since settling down in her new favourite city of Edmonton, Alberta with her husband and their three children, Gloria hopes to continue to advance her legal skills and career with the team at SN Law Office. She has a great passion to support immigrant families through the immigration process as she knows from experience it is not always easy to navigate the system. As well, Gloria sees opportunities in supporting and advocating for young children who have lost one or both parents. Having suffered the loss of her mother at a young age, she understands the complexities of grief and loss as it relates to the family dynamic. She is excited to better serve Edmonton and surrounding areas through her legal work and passionate endeavors.
While her love of travel was initially quenched with studying abroad, Gloria now hopes in her leisure time to explore more of Canada with her beautiful family in the coming years. She welcomes any and all suggestions of places to visit, near and far!
