Soni Nayak - Principal Lawyer
Soni Nayak is an established and experienced lawyer. Prior to starting her own practice, Soni practiced law internationally for over 5 years. Upon completion of her articling in Toronto she moved to Fort McMurray where she practiced for over two years. She later moved to Edmonton to practice at a large full-service firm before branching out and founding SN Law Office.
Soni is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Law Society of Alberta. In 2002, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from Government Law College, Mumbai, India and was admitted to the Bar Council of India (Maharashtra and Goa) in the same year. Two years later, she was awarded a scholarship from the College of Law and International Bar Association for her Diploma in Competition Law and Mergers & Acquisitions. After immigrating to Canada in 2007, Soni was admitted to the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Toronto where she obtained a Certificate of Equivalency. She also has a Bachelor of Legal Science (B.LS.) degree.
Soni has a broad array of expertise in the areas of Corporate Commercial Law and Family Law. In Corporate Law, her accomplishments include the following:
In addition, Soni was an invited speaker at a conference held by the Italian Trade Commission in India and the Chinese Consulate in India regarding foreign direct investment in India. Her major clients have been pharmaceutical companies, FMCG companies, and media and entertainment companies. She is currently a member of both the Indo-China Chamber of Commerce and the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
In Family Law, Soni has handled matters involving custody, support, domestic abuse, child welfare, grandparents’ rights, and Emergency Protection Orders. She has assisted clients in the adoption process and has negotiated the resolution of both divorce and division of matrimonial property matters.
Soni has also been active in her community. She has acted as the Registration Coordinator for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and CIBC Run for the Cure in 2010, and as the Community Relations Officer for the Fort McMurray Gujarati Cultural Society. She has helped in raising funds for the Lawyers Collective HIV-AIDS Unit, Mumbai — a NGO committed to protect and promote the rights of people affected by HIV/AIDS through legal reform and legal-aid.
